We love an Australian down here in New Zealand. One of my favourite Veronica Tracey characters is an Aussie and we love Crockett, don’t we?
Of course we do … here we go:

What makes you tick?
I’m Matt, a middle aged, grumpy man from Australia. I like writing, sitting at home doing nothing and playing paintball. 

Favourite genre/s to read or write? 
Fantasy, all day everyday. Has been what I’ve read and written since I was a young child. 

Please tell us about your latest work, what are you working on?
I’m guessing by the time this comes out my latest project will be my paintball story – Pursuit of Glory. Basically it follows a young man, Connor, who is new to the world of paintball. He meets a player and joins a team and then sets to work trying to help them win a tournament. There are lots of trials and tribulations along the way as you can imagine.

Do you like chocolate fish?
What is a chocolate fish? I like chocolate and I like fish but not necessarily together. 
(I think you’d like our chocolate fish …)

What’s your main character like? 
He’s like me. A bit younger (10 years or so), a bit nicer and a bit more athletic. Basically, he’s everything I wanted to be. I’m closer to another character in the book. 

• Would you go to the pub with them? 
• Sure, but I don’t drink.
• Would you have them over for dinner? 
• Yep, but I don’t know what we’re eating lol.
• What music do they listen to? 
• 70s- 00s rock. The good stuff. 
• What type of car do they drive? 
• Funny, I left it ambiguous because that wasn’t the detail I wanted to get down into. Let’s say he’s like me and drives a hatchback of some kind.
• Are they a series character? 
• Yes, the Pursuit series will be a trilogy. 

What piece of advice would you give a new writer? 
Stop now before you regret your life choices? Lol. I don’t actually know. 

What part of writing do you find the hardest? 
Quite frankly, editing can suck a fat one. If I never have to edit one of my books again, I’ll be golden. 

Have you ever had lolly cake? 
A what? (Just a delicious party treat that Aussie hasn’t purloined. ;))

Pantser or outliner? And why? 
Both because I need to be flexible. Sometimes I’ll have an idea and want to add depth and just roll with it. 

Do you write in silence?
Silence is golden. Sometimes I’ll have youtube videos on but they’re distracting. 

Do you like to listen to audio books? 
Sometimes when I have an office job. Last I was listening to Way of Kings by Sanderson. 

Have you ever visited New Zealand?
Never left Australia. I’d like to go places though. (Perhaps you should visit NZ, we’re so close and all that … also we have Lolly cake and chocolate fish!)

Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, or some other type of pet?
Chilli, a new rescue greyhound and Banjo a jack Russell – chihuahua 

Where do you write? 
Anywhere I can. Usually when I have an office job that’s on the train to and from work or in the lunch room on lunch. Otherwise at home it has to be done. When I’m focused I’m writing pretty much everywhere except paintball tournaments I go to.
