Peekaboo

So, I’m reading this book … guys, we have been here so many times …
I do not think a character needs to ‘peek’ on every page. That could just be me. But, I’ve started counting because there are so many instances and it’s not confined to one particular character. They’re all at it.
So many ‘peeks’ that I thought I’d go see who this author is.

This person has churned out 18 books in the last 9 years.
I hope like hell the next 17 books are not like this one.
There is no real information about the author anywhere. The name suggests a man but the writing doesn’t feel right. It also doesn’t feel as though there is anything of substance behind it. To be honest, it feels like the very first thing the person ever wrote and they decided it was fucking fantastic and published it.

(Clearly, they do not have friends like mine who pissed themselves laughing at my first attempts at writing and certainly did not suggest publishing it – because it was abysmal – because you need to learn your craft before you set shit free. 🙂 :))

You might’ve guessed that ‘peeking’ isn’t the only problem and you would be correct.
The flipping from metres to feet with the same character – weirdly distracting.
The maths doesn’t work when they talked about rows of shipping containers. The person thinks 30 metres is a vast distance which tells me they have no real concept of metres so are probably American and have never used the metric system. (A rugby field is about 122 metres long (100 metres between the try lines) and 70 metres wide.)
The info dumping as “thoughts” and a helluva lot of thoughts from the male character and fuck all from the female.
The mansplaining and getting it wrong. OMG. Do not even.
Potentially the worst gun fight scene I’ve ever read – and I’ve read some absolute shockers. (To this person’s credit there was no mention of physical safety switches on Glocks, so at least that was something.)
But I don’t know anyone who can sprint while keeping a weapon aimed at another person who is in a position that makes no sense. Sprint? Come on! Pull the other one, it’s got bells on.
I’ve got to chapter 7. I’m sure there is more sprinting, weird climbing, bizarre peeking, odd measurements, and much mansplaining to come.
Wish me luck.

I’m wondering if the person who wrote this book ever got out of their chair and tried walking through any scenarios or has even sat back and watched life for a moment. Do they know people?

The problem I’m having is visual. I’m seeing what the author wrote but it doesn’t work so it gets confusing. It’s not meshing cohesively or at all really. (We’re in danger of wandering into laying cups on tables territory. That old drippy mess!)

Now I know, for sure, that reviews mean fuck all. There are over 2000 reviews and the average is 4.3 stars.
Talk about confusing. WTF?

My ability to find shit books is beyond a joke!
