Right, so, here’s the thing.
I rushed down to Blenheim on Tuesday morning because Superman was discovered unconscious at home (on Moetapu Bay Road in Mahau Sound) not fun for anyone! It took the fire brigade and ambulance to get him out because the driveway is too difficult for ambulances when the ground is sodden. Of course, Superman missed all the excitement due to being unconscious with a brain bleed. So he has a large chunk of time missing. About four days worth of time missing and then a few more days when his brain wasn’t making new memories.
Brain injuries are tricky things.
I was in Blenheim, my youngest son flew over from Sydney. So thankful he could because it was such a difficult time and seeing Superman initially was quite a shock. Talk about black and blue!
On Wednesday I really wanted Doris in Blenheim with me. Couldn’t really explain what was going on in my brain but something felt off and I wanted her with me and NOW.
She arrived with her bestie on the midday flight on Thursday.
About 4:30PM on Thursday, Freda rang Doris because she went to pick Diesel up and there were police everywhere and an ambulance. There was a home invasion. OUR home. The front door, ranch slider, and a big front windows were smashed. There was blood everywhere (according to police). They’d taken Diesel out the back and were looking after him. Freda took him home to her place. Both cats were nowhere to be found. (They were hiding under my bed.)
Grandson 1 was injured. He was taken to hospital. My ex (Grandson 1’s Pop) went to find out what happened. He went to the hospital after trying to get police to let him find the cats – they wouldn’t because it was an active crime scene. OUR HOME WAS AN ACTIVE CRIME SCENE.
Bestie/Sister drove up from Christchurch straight after work on Thursday and didn’t hear any of this until she arrived at 9:30PM.
Friday we went out to Moetapu to get some things for Superman. Important things like his glasses. The lounge looked like a crime scene. There was more blood in his house than ours. We found two places where he must’ve been unconscious due to the amount of blood in the carpet – directional drops – smeared blood on bookshelves, door frames … you get the picture. The carpet needs to be ripped up. We cleared the fridge and did the important stuff. All sorted. It was a shitty wet day on Friday.
Youngest son flew back to Sydney on Saturday and Daughter 3 arrived with Xanthy and baby Violet (who is 3 1/2 and not at all like a baby). Superman very much enjoyed his time with the kids – will he remember? No one knows. He’ll be in hospital for the foreseeable future.
We all left on Monday for the North Island again. We were picked up by friend Pip. Daughter 2 and her husband met us at home to give us the new keys. Also, she’d cleaned up the glass and blood and generally did very good daughter things. Pip, Doris, and I had a wee tipple.
I got a call from the hospital at 9:30PM saying Superman had a fall. FFS. He was/is apparently fine.
I didn’t get an update today.
Today I spent an hour having a scan done of my right palm and fingers – which I’ve waited 3 weeks for! There is definitely fluid around my tendons it’ll be interesting to get the diagnosis. I’ll check the doctor’s app in a few days. (Fingers crossed.)
In surprising news … I won a prize pack from Queen Anne Chocolates today!! And it’s already on the way. 🙂
So exciting!
And the best news … the wonderful Margot Kinberg has finished reading [FFS] and I have some hilarious comments and some very good suggestions. 🙂 🙂
Anywho, that’s been my week. Hope yours is going well.

You have had an absolutely terrible week so far! I sure hope Superman gets well – how scary for all of you. And, speaking of scary, it’s terrible you had a home invasion! I’m glad the pets are OK, and all is cleaned up but still! We had a home invasion once, and I’ve never forgotten that awful feeling. I hope you get the chance to recoup and get your bearings again. Thanks for the kind words!
