What ever I said …

The last few days have been intense writing days. Almost as intense as the wind storm yesterday and last night, it took out power in various places throughout the region. Great fun. Discovered I have no candles, so, we shall go candle shopping. Weird that I don’t have any. Whatever. I’ll get some so we don’t have to use Doris’s very cool candles in future power outages.

Writing. Boy, I did some writing. I was thinking (too much) about the timeline of this story. It’d been bugging me for a while. I knew I needed to shift a day. That’s not that easy to do if you write like I do, everything is linked via writer magic, I had to find those little links and change them. I also don’t have a lot of wasted words so if I’m trying to move something it’s hard to disrupt things to do that. I was looking at dialogue and loathe to interrupt it. It’s done. I shifted the day which changed the timeline. Why? Because Sunday was too long. Not joking, that’s what was annoying me. Sunday was too long. Worse than that though. Sunday was too long BUT it was also the right day to have certain things happen and I had to work out how to step characters back and still maintain a sense of urgency.
This is why we writers are paid the big bucks.
Yes, I’m laughing. As if! Chance would be a fine thing.

Upshot is: I’m tired. My brain worked quite hard over the weekend and I didn’t really make anything easy for it. Everything I was doing I expected my brain to follow along and store all the information then jump ahead and make sure that what I changed worked. I wasn’t making notes. Mostly because my wrist was anti-note making.
FYI, you’ll all love the coded message in this book. I’ll be dead impressed if anyone can work it out without brute-force. 🙂

I will probably get more writing done today. I’m over 50K in [FML] now. Well on track for a finished first-draft by late November. Hooray.
I can’t wait. I have no freaking clue what’s going to happen at the end of this one. Not even a hint. It’s a blank slate currently. Well, not really, I am around the half-way mark so there is plenty happening but the end … who knows?!

Here’s a graphic Doris made for Terrorbyte:

  1. I love that graphic!! That is fabulous. It’s good to hear you’re making so much progress on [Foxtrot Mike Lima]. I’ve had those ‘writing times,’ too, when it feels like you’ve just got to keep writing. As for timelines? Funny thing is, I’ve been messing about with the timeline in my WIP. Things are happening a little more quickly than I want (and possibly more quickly than they really would in real life). But they’re happening as they need to happen, if that makes sense. And yeah, messing with a timeline changes everything. Oh, well, the end product will be better for it.
