You wouldn’t believe it …

Life has been crazy, you know that if you’ve been here longer than five minutes, with all the crazy I fudged an ISBN. I put it into D2D and it’s already been used. It’s mine so, I guess I put the wrong name next to it in the file! It’s easy to do. I get them in blocks of ten and usually use them fairly quickly. I thought my last block had six left. Three I used for [Echo Mike Papa] and three for [Foxtrot Foxtrot Sierra] … oops. Anywho, I have ordered another block of ten and will redo the print PDF and the ePub once I have the new numbers. (It’s just replacing the numbers nothing fancy, the fancy is already done.)

For those of you who don’t know about ISBNs in New Zealand … we are given them by the government, all we have to do is ask. I am aware that a lot of countries make you pay. Ours doesn’t. Once the book or whatever is published we all send a copy to the National Library for their archives and for the catalogue. That is a condition of getting free ISBNs. I think they only accept digital versions now but I’ll check when I go to send the information about [Foxtrot Foxtrot Sierra].

Most of the day was spent creating the final files for [Foxtrot Foxtrot Sierra], so they’re done, I just need 1 new ISBN each and won’t have to worry about them at all. They can lurk in a pre-order situation on Amazon and every other platform all at once. Next step once those new ISBNs arrive is to order author copies for the physical launch here on April 17th. I like to give myself plenty of time to order copies because postage is a killer. So, it’s far better to order them in batches than all at once. You’d think that wouldn’t be the case but it is. I don’t know why it works like that. Usually we think bulk buying is cheaper, right? Not always especially when it comes to postage on books from Australia.

This year is a two book year. At some stage towards spring, I’ll be looking at launching [Echo Mike Papa]. I will obviously have to get a date sorted. At the moment, organising things for April/May seems like enough. Worrying about anything beyond that, is too much.

This morning I was sitting on my bed talking to Pete on the Break It Down Show. I’ll find the video. We had a decent bitch session about Amazon and Facebook among other things. Sometimes you need to hear it from other people so you know it’s not just you. 🙂
Always a fun time talking with Pete. If you’ve done my classes you’ve heard me talk about his podcast as a resource for writers.
