I had someone recently comment with derision because one of characters used a pen and notebook rather than take notes on her phone. Apparently that meant my character was incompetent. Far from it buddy. I can take notes on my phone, I can dictate notes, I can use a pen and paper. I can write … Continue reading Thinking with my fingertips vs pen and paper.

Somebody pour me a drink
It's been a year. I am aware it's not even mid-July but it's been a year. It's a year since Superman's slowly fatal head injury. Six months was fucking insanity. At times, hilarious, but mostly awful. Then the next six months of getting stuff sold, bought, organised. It's also been a year since the home … Continue reading Somebody pour me a drink
Something is coming …
Something is coming out of Upper Hutt. Not loud. Not flashy. Not announced with confetti and balloons. Something quieter than that. And far more dangerous. Politics kills. Secrets kill faster. And in this town, both have a habit of getting personal. I didn’t set out to write a political thriller. I set out to tell … Continue reading Something is coming …

If you've wanted to start reading my work - now's good. I could do with the sales because today's was the … Continue reading [FFS] launch day!
Authorial Doom Spiral
AKA: what happens pre-launch. Twice in the life of a single book, there are times when the brain goes completely feral: the instant you finish a novel … I call it *writers’ trench coat syndrome* when your brain doesn’t know what to do with itself and you are pretty sure nothing makes sense. It’s not … Continue reading Authorial Doom Spiral
Stone cold …
This morning I was creating some graphics. My right index finger was stone cold for nearly half an hour and then for fun it did it four more times. Maybe if I ever get contacted by Pacific Radiology to book an MRI of my wrist we will find out why this shit keeps happening. They've … Continue reading Stone cold …
The things we do.
Every day we do things. Things we don't even think about. We just do them. They're not usually a conscious thought, but learned or repetitive behaviours. Cleaning your teeth for example. It's second nature to most of us because we were conditioned to clean our teeth every day.I was thinking today about the frailty of … Continue reading The things we do.
