Kia ora,
Big Upper Hutt welcome for this author. She’s someone I’ve known for a while. She came to my writing group years ago. And often came by the bookshop for a coffee (I make good coffee). She even did a stint as my editor once upon a time.
Let’s get into those questions:
Who are you?
I’m Terri. I’m a wife and mother of one son. I live in Wellington, New Zealand. I’m a romance author and editor. When not writing or editing, I can usually be found in the kitchen baking delicious treats to share with family and friends. I’m a lover of Lego, chocolate, cheesecake, and wine.
Favourite genre/s to read or write?
Favourite genre to write: romance.
Favourite genre to read: romance, true crime, crime thrillers, fantasy.
Please tell us about your latest work:
My latest work has been to revamp my first book series with new covers and interior files. I’m rewriting two of the series. I’m currently working on book two Tag You’re Mine.
However, I am also working on book two in my Billington Industries series, a roommates-to-lovers romance. And I am also working on book three in my South Island shifter series, little blue penguin falls in love with a human.
Do you like chocolate fish?
Yes! Especially the Queen Anne brand so many flavours to choose from.
(Have you tried their coffee flavoured choccie fish? OMG. They’re amazing!)
What’s your main character like?
For this I’m picking James and Riley from Tag You’re Mine.
- Would you go to the pub with them?
- Yes.
- Would you have them over for dinner?
- Yes.
- What music do they listen to?
- I don’t know. That hasn’t come up.
- What type of car do they drive?
- James drives a Jaguar. Riley has a small Honda.
- Are they a series character?
- Yes, but they get one book but reappear through my other series.
What piece of advice would you give a new writer?
Get to know your characters like they are your best friends, and don’t use Google docs to write (as an editor it’s hard to edit on it), use MS Word.
What part of writing do you find the hardest?
Time and marketing.
Have you ever had lolly cake?
Yes, my mum bakes the best one.
Pantser or outliner? And why?
A little of both. I try to get a basic outline of my book down, but it’ll often change the more I write.
Do you write in silence?
Depends on my mood. Most of the time yes I write in silence to get into the groove.
Do you like to listen to audio books?
I have listened to audio books with my son, he likes the 13 story treehouse ones. But they are the only ones I’ve ever tried, I’m not really into audio books preferring to create characters in my head.
Have you ever visited New Zealand?
I live in New Zealand and yes, have travelled quite a bit of it.
Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, or some other type of pet?
We have a bunny, named Cosmo. She’s not quite three months old.
Where do you write?
At home, or while waiting for Royce to finish school in the car.

I really respect authors who can write a solid, believable romance. It’s not easy to do that and have the story stay believable. I give you credit. And I know just what you mean about that balance between outlining a story, and letting it take us where it takes us. I wish you much success!
