There’s a tipping point:

I always know when a book tips over from “chaos gremlin” to “actual novel,” and yesterday [EMP] hit that point hard. One moment I was trudging through scenes like I’d lost the map; the next, everything snapped into alignment and the story took off like it had somewhere urgent to be.
