Making things happen?

It’s freezing here. I hate winter so much.
Although there is sun today but it’s not a warm sun.
I spent a lot of yesterday trying to work out how to alter the cover of Vaporbyte so I could upload it to Amazon. Vaporbyte hasn’t been available as a paperback from anywhere except me or Writers Plot. After some thinking and an idea of how to do what I needed to do … it’s done!
Hooray you will soon be able to get Vaporbyte purple as a paperback. (I think, I dunno which inside I uploaded when I was trying to get it to work a couple of years ago.)
That’ll be fun!
Amazon kept rejecting our beautiful cover because of 0.02mm and then 0.03mm. Guess they don’t trust the people doing the trimming. Anywho, I didn’t want to change the cover because I love it. So what I did was cut it into pieces. A back, a front, and a spine. Now the spine needed changing because there was an issue.
I created a new spine without the issue but it’s now solid purple not part of a dragonfly. That’s fine. And it actually works.
The first attempt I forgot I’d chosen cream paper and created a template for white. Oops. Amazon rejected the new cover.
I went back to the cover template creator and chose the correct paper type.
Then I reassembled the pieces on the new template. Looked like it would work. But it didn’t. It was rejected. The writing on the top of the front would’ve been cut in half with the trim. Bugger.
I had another idea.
I’d make the first layer of the blank template I created dark purple. The overlay the actual template I needed to make sure I got everything in the right place, then I’d add the pieces, making sure I kept a solid purple border.
Success. Hooray!
I wrote everything I did down, just in case. I feel like it took me way longer than it should’ve to work this out. Nevermind.
I approved it this morning and hopefully Amazon will do the same later today. 🙂 🙂
We’ll see if they think I got it right.
It was kinda fun playing around with the cover pieces.
The temptation to chop it all up and put the pieces back together in a weird jigsaw kinda way was high. I might do it later just for my own amusement. (Because I can. If you recall Vaporbyte and its two version was very much a ‘because I could’ book.)

That was my Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
Hope all is fabulous wherever you are.

  1. Covers can be maddening that way, can’t they, Cat? I had trouble with the cover for Streets of Gold, too! Took forever to get it to meet their requirements *sigh.* I think it’s great that Vaporbyte purple will be out in paper. Time for a re-launch or some such celebration…

    • Funny thing about the covers I’ve had trouble with – they’ve all printed here perfectly well.
      That’s the bit I don’t understand. 🙂
Glad I’m not the only one that’s struggled to meet the cover requirements! xx
