Last week my youngest son (who is about to be an age that doesn’t make him very young at all) was playing with ChatGPT after I’d shared some news.
This is the result of Josh’s tinkering. I don’t know exactly what his prompt was and ChatGPT consistently wants to say my Byte Series is about hackers and cyber crime. Sure cyber crime is an element of some of the books but it’s more generalised than that. The Byte is there because there is a lot of technology (of all kinds) involved. The series is not about a hacker. Ellie is not a hacker. But this is still amusing – if you can over look how scary AI is getting.
Read on … and should you want to read Killerbyte yourself it’s currently free on Smashwords.

FADE IN:
INT. FBI HEADQUARTERS – ELLIE’S OFFICE – DAY
Ellie Conway (early 30s, intelligent, determined) sits at her desk, surrounded by crime scene photos and computer screens displaying code. She’s a skilled profiler.
ELLIE
(whispering)
Killerbyte… What are you hiding?
INT. CYBERCAFÉ – NIGHT
Ellie enters a dimly lit cybercafé, filled with hacker types. She approaches a HACKER (20s, edgy) sitting at a computer.
ELLIE
I need your help. I’m looking for someone they call Killerbyte.
HACKER
(sly smile)
He’s not someone you want to mess with. What’s in it for me?
INT. FBI HEADQUARTERS – TECH LAB – DAY
Ellie and her tech-savvy partner, AGENT LUCAS, analyze encrypted files and surveillance footage.
ELLIE
We need to find a pattern, Lucas. There must be something connecting these murders.
AGENT LUCAS
(nodding)
I’ll dig deeper into their online activities. Maybe we can trace their digital footprint.
INT. UNDERGROUND HACKER’S MEETING – NIGHT
Ellie infiltrates an underground hacker’s meeting, disguised as one of them. She listens to conversations and gathers intel.
ELLIE
(to herself)
Killerbyte is here. I can feel it.
INT. DARK WEB MARKETPLACE – NIGHT
Ellie, now deep within the dark web, encounters a mysterious figure known as THE HACKTIVIST (40s, enigmatic). They share information about Killerbyte’s activities.
THE HACKTIVIST
(whispering)
Killerbyte is after something big. We need to stop them before it’s too late.
INT. SAFE HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – NIGHT
Ellie and her team gather at a safe house, surrounded by laptops and surveillance equipment.
ELLIE
(showing determination)
We’re getting closer, everyone. Let’s bring this hacker down and save lives.
INT. KILLERBYTE’S HIDEOUT – NIGHT
Ellie and her team storm Killerbyte’s hidden lair, engaging in a high-stakes shootout. They find themselves facing Killerbyte, who reveals a shocking twist.
KILLERBYTE
(laughing)
You think you can stop me, Agent Conway? You have no idea what I’m capable of.
INT. CITY SKYSCRAPER – PENTHOUSE – NIGHT
Ellie discovers Killerbyte’s true identity: ALEXANDER WALLACE, a brilliant but disturbed hacker seeking revenge on those who wronged him.
ELLIE
(angry, determined)
Wallace, it ends here. Your reign of terror stops now.
A thrilling cat-and-mouse game ensues, with Ellie and Wallace battling on the penthouse floor.
INT. CITY SKYSCRAPER – HELIPAD – NIGHT
In a final confrontation, Ellie manages to apprehend Wallace, but not before he activates a countdown to a citywide cyber attack.
ELLIE
(desperate)
I won’t let you destroy everything!
Ellie races against time, utilizing her technical skills to stop the cyber attack before it’s too late.
EXT. CITY SKYSCRAPER – ROOFTOP – NIGHT
Ellie stands triumphantly on the rooftop, watching as Wallace is taken away.
Ha! This is quite a different way to think of Killerbyte, Cat! I have to say, your dialogue is heaps better than this dialogue is! Still, there are a few interesting bits of tension here. Yeah, no, you’re heaps better.
