The Tide Is High

There’s been a lot of writing happening here over the last few weeks. So much so that this new book will be a complete “first draft” sometime in October. I was aiming for late November. It’s gone places I didn’t think it would. There is more than one surprise in this story. I love when stories do that, demand their truth be told regardless of what I think should be happening.
Makes every day interesting. I open the file and wonder WTF is going to happen next. 🙂

Dallas has discovered my Post-it wall. That is not an ideal situation. I’m forever rescuing notes from her. She likes to run away with them and hide them. No doubt Patrick will start doing to same soon. If I could put them higher I would!

The other night I wrote 5 pages by hand (cursive like a real person), they were full pages. It turns out that was NOT a good idea. My wrist did not appreciate it at all. So apparently I can write small amounts by hand. That’s very annoying because sometimes the only way to capture a scene is by hand. Learning more about my wrist every day. So far not a lot of it is good.
I know I can’t use a mouse, good thing I don’t need to! It’s now protesting if I type for too long. I guess I can understand that, it’s the movement and the angle my wrist is at while I type (but not always).

Hoping to move this story forward again today. I think it’s going to be a lot longer than I thought. Mostly because there is so much going on. I may remove a story thread later but then again I may not. It’s fascinating me. I’m enjoying the other perspectives as I write. As usual though I’ll have to go through my Crockett and Ben notebook and tweak them into more Aussie and more American, respectively. That’s a much later problem. Currently it’s all about getting the story out. That’s all I need to happen now. Spit it out. Pretty it up later. I’ve given up on my backward outline for the moment. Mostly because I have added so many chapters in certain areas that the numbering is so far fucked it won’t make sense until I’m finished and can bring some order back into it. (It’s not the story that doesn’t make sense, it’s the chapter numbers. No sense in changing them again, I’ll just carry on bookmarking them and sort it at the end.)

Treat yourself go buy a book: [Lure the lie]

For fun this is how screwed the numbering is in [Foxtrot Mike Lima] currently:

  1. I know what you mean about the story taking shape no matter what you thought it might be like, Cat. And it’s going to be a much better story than it would have been if you’d restricted it. Of course, that means you have to be extra careful of your wrist, but still!

I love the mental image of Dallas and your notes. Perhaps she wants to learn to be a writer! And with her and Patrick at it, you may have to find another way of keeping your thoughts focused! It’s a challenge when the number of furballs exceeds the number of humans, isn’t it?

    • There’s something about this story, maybe because it’s a little bit of a cross-over and that’s causing a few fun things to happen!
I think, when a story takes on a life of its own, we just have to follow it and be patient. 🙂

As for fur balls … she’s adorable but perhaps she has some story ideas of her own! 🙂 🙂
