Traditionally I turn edits around quickly and this time is no exception. My lovely editor sent the first round of edits yesterday arvo (Boxing Day). I didn’t even mean to get stuck in, I was just having a look.
A marked-up document is irresistible to me.
They’re done. That’s how I operate.
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen [Foxtrot Mike Lima], since finishing that book I’ve written a Christmas short story. I’ve also started the next Veronica Tracey Spy/PI novel … even though I’m trying to pretend I haven’t.
I have.
I know it’s serious when I order a pocket sized Moleskine notebook and I did. Each of the VT novels has a corresponding Moleskine. (Apart from the very first one.)
The notebooks contain all sorts of information pertaining to the particular story I’m working. Things like word choices for each main character – there are a lot of weird and wonderful Aussie and Kiwi saying and words in each notebook. There is also an extra pocket sized notebook that goes with the main notebook and that contains ciphers and other goodies. 🙂 When I’m writing, both notebooks are with me all the time.
When I’m finished those notebooks are stored safely so I can refer to them as needed. They also become proof of life.
It’s a process.
Anywho, today raise a glass to Brennan the astronaut (27/12) and tomorrow raise a glass to Gabriel the accountant (28/12).
IYKYK.
FYI – the Smashwords end of year sale is still running.

Ah edits! I do them quickly, too. I love that feeling, too, of plunging into a new story. It’s a rush, isn’t it? I hope it goes well. Raising glasses…
It is a rush! It really is. 🙂
