The race is on …

Currently a proof from Amazon and a proof from Draft2Digital are winging their way to me. This morning it seemed like the D2D proof would win but now it looks like the Amazon one might be in the lead. One is coming from Sydney (Amazon) the other from Melbourne (D2D). It’s an exciting race, to be sure.

I really should be writing but I’m not. I could but I won’t, not today. I might read for the afternoon or maybe I’ll watch something I don’t need to think about and make notes in the [IRL] notebook.
Or maybe, I’ll use this time to put a glossary in the back of [FML]. Somethings might need a bit of explaining – not much – but you know. Little things like why Ronnie says ‘Indigo’ instead of ‘India’ when using the phonetic alphabet. Maybe, or maybe I won’t ever explain it. We don’t know which way I’m going to jump at the moment. Of course, there is another way … I may or may not have included a quick explanation in the text itself, while I was thinking about it this afternoon.

Today I was delighted to be asked by a friend if I’d read his beautiful book (a childrens book) and I did. It is a fantabulous story and the illustrations are stunning. Freda read it as well and was full high praise for Dave. (She’s brutally honest always so when she says she thought Dave a really good job of the story – that means a lot.)

What else did I do today?
Well, I framed two posters. So now, I have Ben’s Rules, Ronnie’s Rules, and Crockett’s Rules on my wall. And they look great but taking a photo of posters behind glass is not easy. 🙂

Tomorrow I am teaching in the city. That will be fun. It’s always fun teaching my crime course, I mean, crime writing course. Easy mistake to make.

It means I will be up very early tomorrow – I don’t really do very early well these days. Hoping the interloper will sleep without crying tonight. We shall see. The interloper is a very cute little guy called Captain, he’s very much a baby and knows very little of the world. Diesel is in charge of helping him navigate life at the moment. Freda is on pup-sitting and training duty.
FYI, he is not ours. He is here to grow and learn then he can go to work with his dad.

  1. I love it that you have those rules. It’s a good way to remind yourself of what those characters are like. I’ll be keen to know which h delivery company gets to you first; it’s an interesting sort of study. Nice of you to take Captain in and show him the ropes. I hope he settles.

    • I’m sure he will settle. It’s hard when everything is so new for him.
That’s a good point Margot – I never thought about the rules as a way to remind myself what the characters are like. Now I’m looking at them with fresh eyes! 🙂
