Hello, I Love You

Thank the Doors for today’s blog title. One of my favourite Doors songs (there are many).

The North Island is rather wet and wild at present. Cyclone Gabrielle is doing her bit to make sure we won’t forget this summer.
It is dangerous out, so don’t go out. Just don’t. We already have one firefighter injured and one missing when a house collapsed up north.

It’s Valentine’s day. Doesn’t mean a whole lot to us. We don’t need a special day to remember how much we love each other. That’s a daily occurrence. I did, however, make little cakes for Freda, Doris, and Devon. (Devon-friendly cakes, of course.)
Doris won’t be able to eat hers today, I imagine. She has a very bad sore throat. (COVID negative yesterday.)

Last night Dallas slept with me. Her purr is HUGE. I kept losing her because she weighs nothing. At one point she got inside my bed and then didn’t know how to get out. πŸ™‚
She had breakfast downstairs with Patrick and Diesel. She was interested in Diesel’s food. He didn’t mind the curiosity. He never does. He’s pretty well bomb-proof when it comes to small furry pals and actual babies/toddlers. Freda’s handiwork. She worked very hard with our once-everything-reactive Mastador to get to this stage. The work is ongoing, and he’s always learning new things. πŸ™‚

It’s currently bathtime … according to Patrick. They have playtime after breakfast and then Patrick thoroughly grooms her and she grooms him. It’s adorable. If Diesel is around he gets groomed as well. πŸ™‚

I’ve been going easy on my screen time lately. So I’m not doing anything for long. Probably good for my wrist as well as my head. Annoyingly reading a book is just as bad (for my brain not my wrist), so, I can’t read for long either at the moment.
Currently reading “One Heart, One Spade” which I’ve had for ages but only just got into it. It’s by Alistair Luke. The front cover image was taken in 1979 and it’s off the BNZ building. Superman worked on that job (as the Quantity Surveyor)- the company he was with at the time did the interior. Kinda cool. I remember the building site well as it dominated the top of Lambton Quay as you walked toward Willis St.
Anywho, enjoying the story. πŸ™‚

Almost finished the story I wasn’t keen on writing. It’s had a name change: Life, Leaves, & Lies. Not sure if it’ll stick.
It didn’t last, the title that is … after some very poor brainstorming with Doris it’s now called “Writing in Leaves” Not sure if that will last until I write that last bloody scene, but it might … who knows? Clearly, not me.

  1. Please stay safe and dry! I’ve been thinking about you and hoping you were all OK. Somehow it doesn’t surprise me that there’s a storm called Gabrielle…. At any rate, thanks for the lovely ‘photos. Dallas seems to be setting in so well. She’s a lucky lass!

    • I think we’ll be okay here. It’s quite dangerous and scary up right up north.
Dallas is a delight. She’s always up for a game. She’ll keep Diesel and Patrick occupied while we’re all stuck inside during this Cyclone. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  2. Like you, I’m only reading in short busts at the mo, but then, you know this is my modus operandi (or as it may be said). Currently halfway through Heather’s “The Weekend Gumboots” at the moment – really enjoying it! Blessing to have the shop – for now – needing a benefactor πŸ™‚
