No secret that I love listening to Elvis. Years ago I had Elvis’s blue album. An actual blue record. Fabulous!
Anywho, today I need to seriously think about writing my speech/talking points for the [Whiskey Tango Foxtrot] launch at Upper Hutt Library on August 4th, 6PM.
Be there or be square. 🙂
Turns out Ronnie’s Nana is quite the hit. She is a phenomenal person so I’m not surprised that she’s gathering a wee following. No doubt I will speak a wee bit about Nana and where she’s come from.
The other fun thing about this book is … an entire story thread was lifted from real life. Anyone who knows me and has known me for a long time, knows exactly where that thread came from. When I decided to use the story I realised that it was so ridiculous that no one would believe it was true. Isn’t that often the way? Truth is stranger than fiction. And it tends to cause editors to balk and say no one would behave like that or believe that!
Luckily my editor knows all about that thread. She witnessed it happen in real time as I kept everyone abreast of developments.
Fun!
In the book I gave that thread an ending I would’ve paid good money to see happen. In real life, something else happened.
I’m thinking (depending on the audience on the night) I might explain a little more or not. I could just let you all discover it for yourselves. 🙂
Very much looking forward to the event. But we have reached the panic stage … what if no one comes? It’s a real fear. I’m not a panicky person by any means. I’ve always been a “get on with it” type of person and prefer not to waste energy with what if’s … but when it comes to book events, everything goes out the window. 🙂
Maybe it’s all part of the creative process, I don’t know. All I know is, there is a good dose of fear and foreboding that goes with book events.
The other thing I know (from experience) is that the night will be fun, no matter what.
So come and have some fun with us:

I so wish I could be there, Cat. I’ll bet it’ll be phenomenal. And I love Nana. I’m so glad she’s part of the series. I would like to know more about her background…. Anyway, I’ll bet you’ll have a great time, and I’m glad things seem to be sorted for the moment. And, yes, I know the real-life situation you put in the book – added to it, you ask me.
It would be amazing if you were!
Thank you for your kind words Margot. 🙂 I think as the series moves along there will be more about Nana and her mischief. 🙂
