It’s over rover …

But it’s not really over it’s just beginning. The initial writing stage is over. Hopefully [Foxtrot Mike Lima] now has 97k worth of bones and sinew and is ready for a little bit of muscle.
As much as I want to dive in and start reading this weekend, I am not going to. I am waiting until Monday.
It is not easy to wait but I need those last scenes to become a distant memory so I can read the whole story and take notes about things I think work really well and any holes or loose areas. That is the next job in the writing process for me.
I have a short list of things that need to go in … introductions to various characters for first time readers and that kind of thing. The joy of the Veronica Tracey Spy/PI series is that you can start anywhere, but obviously starting in the beginning is a good idea. 🙂
This series is different in that different characters tell the story.
In, [Nothing happens here] the story unfolds through Veronica/Ronnie’s eyes.
[Lure the lie] the story unfolds through Crockett and Ronnie’s POV and also a third person POV (Tania).
[Leave a message] is told via Ronnie and Crockett’s POV.
[Whiskey Tango Foxtrot] is told by Ronnie, Crockett and Donald.
[Foxtrot Mike Lima] is told by Ronnie, Ben, and Crockett’s POV and also third person POV of Mitch.
It’s the first time anyone gets to see the world via Ben, so that was interesting. I learned some things about him! It is a complex story and needed different eyes for various aspects.

But I have to say I didn’t think I’d be writing a book this year so I am delighted to have written THE END yesterday. Took a team to get me here and I am grateful to have had Habit Health and ACC in my corner. (Chrissie was my OT and she was wonderful. PT Marie was also fabulous. And PT/OT Natalie is awesome.) A wonderful surgeon at Bowen Hospital who tried to fix my wrist (thanks Roy I appreciate that you tried but it was a bit shit in there). Cheryl, my GP, is always a calm voice of reason and is pretty damn good at getting things done.
See, it’s a team thing. Usually it’s a team of friends but this year it was a medical team as well, because shit happens. 🙂
A new med team starts on Monday and it should be interesting and hopefully we’ll come up with some strategies for going forward. 🙂

In other news: Go and vote! Labour needs your vote and the country needs Labour for another term!

  1. I am really, really happy for you that you got the draft done!! Yay!!! Fixing what you’ve already done is always easier, I think, than playing secretary to the characters in the first draft. It’s not always as much fun, but it’s easier. Now, give that wrist a rest!

    • I agree that fixing what’s written is easier than the initial writing. It’s fantastic to write The End no matter how shitty we think a first draft is! 🙂 So much easier to fix something when it already exists – less brain taxing! 🙂 And by 97K I was quite tired of playing secretary!! 🙂 🙂
