Occasionally a story has a mind of its own. When that happens there is no point forcing the story onto the path you’ve chosen. Sometimes you just need to sit with it.
Plant yourself in the mess and watch. Let it do what it wants. See what happens. You’ve got nothing to lose.
Words are fluid. They’re not set in stone and as an author, you need to remain open to other possibilities while in the writing phase of your work.
Your subconscious knows what it’s doing. Let it work.
With the above in mind, I sat with [Whiskey Tango Foxtrot] and it definitely helped.
The other thing that helped was my wonderful editor coming out for a visit and giving a very gentle nudge.
And then there was a conversation with another friend about an author. We might’ve planned his demise – all in good fun, mind you! She’d come in to enquire about [Whiskey Tango Foxtrot].
Two ever so gentle nudges this week.
After seeing Nicky earlier in the week, I wrote a few thousand words and yesterday I wrote 3k in the MS. So, it worked. I wasn’t yet at what could be called the halfway point until late yesterday afternoon. Now it feels like it’s moving.
I also found something out about the story. Funny how that happens when you let it.
If you’ve read [Lure the Lie] and/or [Leave a message] then you know about the Genesis program.
Things changed dramatically by the end of [Leave a message] for Genesis but now I know something about that change. Cryptic! π
Anywho, writing is fun again because I can the scenes and by crikey, Nana is really causing some strife this time around!
It’s the weekend, I’ve got writing to do … well, as much as my wrist will allow anyway.
Oh, before I go … [Veronica Tracey Spy/PI] volume 1 is available on Kindle Unlimited. Yes, that means you can read the first two Veronica Tracey books (in one handy volume) for free if you use KU.
And if you feel like buying me a coffee (authors don’t get paid anywhere near enough to buy their own coffee) you can buy me a coffee … here. π
Thanks for dropping by!
Great article, made me think. I think I might have over-edited my “Meditations” section, everything else I’m happy with, so yes, as you say, I might need to “sit” with that one. Great tip ta heaps π
